How to Install Microsoft Office 2019 Professional Plus in 2026
This guide explains how to install and activate Microsoft Office 2019 Professional Plus on a Windows 10 or Windows 11 desktop or laptop.
The installation is straightforward. You will need a Microsoft account, your valid 25-character Office 2019 Professional Plus product key and an internet connection.
Office 2019 support notice: Microsoft support for Office 2019 ended on 14 October 2025. Office 2019 can continue to function, but Microsoft no longer provides normal security updates, bug fixes or technical support for this version.
Office 2019 remains relevant for customers who specifically require the 2019 generation or already have a valid Office 2019 licence.
Installation overview: Remove previous or conflicting Office versions → go to setup.office.com → sign in or create a Microsoft account → enter your 25-character product key → select your region and language → download Office → open the downloaded file → allow installation to complete → restart the PC → open Word → select online activation → confirm Office is activated.
Before You Install Office 2019 Professional Plus
Before starting, make sure you have the following:
Your Office 2019 product key
You will need the valid 25-character Office 2019 Professional Plus product key supplied in your EcoKeys order email.
A Microsoft account
You need to sign into Microsoft's Office setup website. If you do not already have a Microsoft account, you can create one during the setup process.
An internet connection
An internet connection is required to access Microsoft's setup service, download Office and complete online activation.
Time to complete the installation
The installation usually takes around 15–30 minutes, although this depends on the speed of your PC, broadband connection and Microsoft server load.
Step 1: Remove Previous or Conflicting Office Versions
Before installing Office 2019 Professional Plus, we recommend removing previous Office versions from the PC.
This includes:
- Microsoft 365 or an Office 365 trial.
- An old Office installation you no longer require.
- A different version of Office that could conflict with Office 2019.
- A failed or incomplete Office installation.

Make sure Microsoft 365 trials are removed where they conflict with the installation. Pre-installed or trial versions of Office are a common reason customers later open the wrong version of Word or see the wrong activation screen.
Step 2: Go to setup.office.com
Once previous conflicting Office versions have been removed, open your web browser.
Go to:

into your browser address bar and press Enter.
Microsoft will display the Office setup screen.
Sign in to Microsoft
Select Get started if shown and sign in using your Microsoft account.
If you do not have a Microsoft account, select Microsoft's option to create one and then continue with the setup.
The Microsoft account is required to access the setup process. Follow the on-screen Microsoft prompts and then continue to the product-key screen.
Step 3: Enter Your Office 2019 Professional Plus Product Key
Microsoft will ask you to enter your product key.
Your Office 2019 Professional Plus key contains 25 characters and is supplied in your EcoKeys order email.
It will have this format:
XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Copy and paste the key
We recommend copying and pasting the product key rather than typing it manually.
- Open your EcoKeys order email.
- Highlight and copy the full 25-character product key.
- Return to the Microsoft setup page.
- Place your cursor in the first product-key field.
- Paste the product key.
- The complete key should populate the product-key fields.
- Select Next.
Copying and pasting helps avoid typing errors. Characters in a 25-character product key can easily be entered incorrectly when typed manually.
Step 4: Select Your Region and Language
Microsoft will next ask you to confirm the region you are in and the language you want to use.
Select the appropriate options and continue through the Microsoft setup screens.
Follow the on-screen prompts until Microsoft provides the Office download.
Step 5: Download Office 2019 Professional Plus
Follow Microsoft's prompts to download the Office installation file.
Unless you have changed your browser's download location, the file should normally appear in your computer's Downloads folder.
Find the downloaded file
- Open File Explorer.
- Select Downloads.
- Find the Microsoft Office installation file you have just downloaded.
Allow the download to finish completely before opening the file. Trying to run an incomplete download can cause the installation to fail.
Step 6: Install Microsoft Office 2019 Professional Plus
Once the download has completed:
- Double-click the downloaded file.
- If Windows asks whether you want to allow the application to make changes to the device, select Yes.
- Microsoft Office installation will begin.
- Leave the PC switched on while Office installs.
The Office installation screen should appear shortly after opening the installer.
How long will installation take?
The installation should normally take approximately 15–30 minutes.
The exact time depends on:
- The speed of your computer.
- Your broadband connection.
- The amount of available storage.
- Microsoft server load.
Do not restart your computer while Office is installing. Wait until Microsoft displays the message confirming that installation has completed.
When installation is complete
Once Microsoft confirms that Office has finished installing:
- Select Close.
- Close any remaining setup windows.
- Restart your computer.
Do not restart until you have received Microsoft's installation-complete message.
Step 7: Open Microsoft Word 2019
After the computer has restarted, open one of the Office applications.
Word is usually the easiest application to use for the first activation.
- Select the Windows Start button.
- Use the search box and type Word.
- Select Microsoft Word 2019.
Word will open and, after a few seconds, you should be presented with the Office activation screen.
Make sure you are opening the newly installed Office application. If the PC previously contained Microsoft 365 or another Office version, check that you have opened the correct Word installation.
Step 8: Activate Office 2019 Professional Plus
The Office 2019 activation screen provides activation options.
You may see options for:
- Online activation.
- Telephone activation.

Select the online activation option and then select Next.
Keep the computer connected to the internet while Microsoft completes the activation.
Microsoft should then activate your Office 2019 Professional Plus installation online.
You only need to activate one Office application
Once one application has been activated successfully, that activation applies to the full Office 2019 Professional Plus suite.
You do not need to activate Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access and Publisher individually.
For example: if you open Word and successfully complete online activation, the other applications included with your Office 2019 Professional Plus installation are covered by that activation.
IMPORTANT — Check Your Office 2019 Activation
After completing online activation, confirm that Office reports the correct activation status.
- Open Microsoft Word.
- Select File.
- Select Account.
- Look under Product Information.
- Confirm that Office reports as activated.
Do not assume Office is activated simply because Word opens. Always check Word → File → Account after installation so you know the activation process has completed successfully.
Installed
Word, Excel and the other included Office applications have been installed and can open.
Activated
Online activation has completed and Office reports the correct activation status in Product Information.
Common Office 2019 Installation Problems
setup.office.com will not open
Check that the PC has a working internet connection and try opening:
https://setup.office.com/
in another modern browser if necessary.
The product key is not being accepted
First check:
- You copied the complete 25-character product key.
- No additional spaces were copied before or after the key.
- You are entering the key on setup.office.com.
- The key matches the Office 2019 Professional Plus product supplied.
If the key still produces an error, record the exact message shown by Microsoft and use EcoKeys Rapid Support.
The Office download will not start
Check:
- Your internet connection is working.
- The browser is not blocking the download.
- There is enough free storage space on the PC.
- You have followed the Microsoft setup prompts completely.
The installer will not open
Restart Windows once, return to your Downloads folder and try opening the Microsoft installation file again.
If Windows displays an error, record the exact wording rather than repeatedly downloading different Office installers.
Installation appears to have stopped
The installation can take 15–30 minutes and can occasionally appear to pause while Microsoft continues downloading or installing Office components.
Do not restart the computer unless the installation has genuinely failed or Microsoft has displayed an error.
Word does not appear after installation
Restart Windows and search for:
Word
using the Windows search box next to the Start button.
Word opens Microsoft 365 instead of Office 2019
A previous Microsoft 365 installation or trial may still be installed.
Open:
Word → File → Account
and check the Product Information section.

The activation screen shows online and telephone activation
This is normal.

Office shows Unlicensed Product after activation
Open:
Word → File → Account
and note exactly what is shown under Product Information.

Office 2019 Support Ended in October 2025
Microsoft support for Office 2019 ended on 14 October 2025.
Office 2019 can continue to function after this date, but Microsoft no longer provides normal:
- Security updates.
- Bug fixes.
- Office 2019 servicing updates.
- Technical support.
This does not prevent a valid Office 2019 licence from being installed and activated. It does mean the software is now outside Microsoft's normal support lifecycle.
Office 2019 can still be relevant when a customer specifically needs the 2019 generation for compatibility with existing software, documents, add-ins or an established PC environment.
For a new Office installation with no specific 2019 requirement, a newer supported Office version should normally be considered first.
