Windows 11 Home is suitable for most everyday personal PCs, including home use, study and gaming. Windows 11 Pro adds professional and advanced features such as BitLocker management, Remote Desktop host access, Group Policy and Hyper-V. Choose Pro when you specifically need one of its additional features rather than simply because it is the higher edition. The licence you purchase must also match the Windows edition you intend to install or activate.
A Windows product key activates the appropriate edition of Microsoft Windows, but purchasing another key is not always necessary. A PC that is already correctly activated may have an existing digital licence, and reinstalling the same Windows edition on that device can often reactivate automatically. Before purchasing, check the installed Windows edition and activation status, and confirm that the computer meets the requirements for the Windows version you intend to use.
Windows 11 is Microsoft's current Windows generation and should normally be considered first for a compatible modern PC. Windows 10 licences remain available for customers with a specific Windows 10 requirement, such as an existing installation, older hardware or software compatibility. For a new or upgraded computer, check Windows 11 hardware compatibility before deciding which version to use.
Important for Windows 10: normal Microsoft support for Windows 10 ended on 14 October 2025. Existing Windows 10 PCs did not stop working on that date, but standard Windows 10 installations no longer receive Microsoft's normal operating-system support and security servicing.
