How to upgrade to Windows 10 or 11 Professional quickly
This is a time-saving tip for customers who have Windows 10 Home or Windows 11 Home and need to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro or Windows 11 Pro without performing a clean installation.
Some Ecokeys customers find that their computer automatically installs Windows Home and does not provide an option to select Windows Pro during setup. There are several possible workarounds, but one of the quickest methods is explained below.
Before beginning, you will need a valid Windows Pro licence. This can be purchased from the Ecokeys store:
Once purchased, you will receive a genuine 25-character Windows Pro product key by email. Keep this available for the activation steps below.

Convert Windows 10 Home or Windows 11 Home to Professional
Step 1: Before beginning the upgrade, disconnect the computer from the internet. Turn off the wireless connection or remove the network cable.
Step 2: Open Control Panel, select System and Security, select System, and then choose Change product key. Enter the following generic edition-upgrade key: VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T
This generic key is used only to change the Windows edition. It does not activate Windows.
Step 3: Allow the edition upgrade to complete. Once Windows shows that the Professional edition is installed, reconnect the computer to the internet.
Step 4: Open the Windows activation settings and select Change product key. Enter the Windows Pro product key purchased from Ecokeys. Do not enter the generic edition-upgrade key again.
Once activation has completed successfully, the computer should show Windows Professional as the installed and activated edition.
This method can save time because it changes the installed Windows edition without requiring a complete clean installation. The computer must be running an activated Home edition, and all available Windows updates should be installed before beginning.
Please complete the steps in the order shown. Mixing instructions from different upgrade or installation methods may prevent the edition change from completing correctly.
