Ecokeys Support Team
3 minute read

An older Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office installation can sometimes interfere with the Office product supplied with your Ecokeys order.

This guide shows you how to remove the older Office applications using the normal Windows uninstall process before continuing with your Ecokeys installation.

Approximate time 5–15 minutes
Difficulty Easy / Guided
Your documents Not normally removed
Your Word and Excel files are separate from the Office applications Removing Microsoft Office does not normally remove Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations or other files you have created.

Before You Start

Save anything you are currently working on.

Close any Microsoft programs that are open, including:

  • Word
  • Excel
  • Outlook
  • PowerPoint
  • Other Microsoft Office applications
Important Only remove the Office installation that your Ecokeys Support Check has identified. If you are unsure which version should be removed, return to the Support Check before continuing.

Step 1 — Open Control Panel

Select the Start button at the bottom of your screen.

Type:

Control Panel

Select Control Panel from the search results.

Step 2 — Open Programs and Features

In Control Panel, select:

Programs
then
Programs and Features

You should now see a list of the programs installed on your computer.

Step 3 — Find the Older Office Installation

Find the Microsoft 365 or older Microsoft Office installation that your Ecokeys Support Check asked you to remove.

Examples may include:

  • Microsoft 365
  • Microsoft Office 2021
  • Microsoft Office 2019
  • Another older Microsoft Office installation
Not sure which one to remove? Stop here and return to your Ecokeys Support Check. Do not remove several Office products just because they appear in the list.

Step 4 — Uninstall the Older Office Version

Select the older Office installation once.

Then select:

Uninstall

Follow the instructions shown on your screen.

Step 5 — Allow the Uninstall to Finish Completely

Removing Office can take several minutes.

Please allow the process to finish Do not close the uninstall window while it is still working, even if the progress appears to pause for a short time.

Step 6 — Restart Your Computer

When the uninstall has finished, restart Windows.

Select:

Start → Power → Restart

Wait for Windows to completely restart and return to the desktop.

What does Restart mean? A restart closes Windows and starts the computer again. Simply switching your monitor off and back on does not restart Windows.

What If Office Will Not Uninstall?

Do not start deleting Microsoft folders, changing the Windows Registry or repeatedly trying different removal methods.

Return to your Ecokeys Support Check and select Office would not uninstall. We will then show you the correct next step for the Office version installed on your computer.

Removal completed successfully? Restart the computer, then return to the Ecokeys Support Check. We will guide you through installing the correct Office product from your order.
