Ecokeys Support Team
3 minute read

If the Microsoft Office licence agreement appears every time you open Word, Excel or another Office application, Office may not be retaining your acceptance correctly.

Follow the steps below in order. Stop as soon as the licence agreement stops appearing.

Approximate time 5–20 minutes
Difficulty Easy / Guided
Your documents Not normally affected
Before you start Save any work you currently have open and close Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and any other Microsoft Office applications.

Step 1 — Accept the Licence Agreement

Open Microsoft Word.

If the Microsoft licence agreement appears, read the message and select:

Accept

Allow Word to open normally.

Close Word completely and then open it again.

Licence agreement no longer appears? The problem is resolved. You do not need to continue with the remaining steps.
Licence agreement appeared again? Continue to Step 2.

Step 2 — Close All Office Applications

Close Word and every other Office application.

Make sure Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and any other Office programs are no longer open before continuing.

Step 3 — Open Word as Administrator

Select the Start button and type:

Word

Do not open Word normally yet.

Instead:

  1. Right-click Microsoft Word.
  2. Select Run as administrator.
  3. If Windows asks for permission, select Yes.
Why are we doing this? Opening Word once with administrator permissions can help when Office is having difficulty saving licence or activation-related information.

Step 4 — Accept the Agreement Again

If the licence agreement appears again while Word is running as administrator, select:

Accept

Allow Word to finish opening.

Then close Word completely.

Step 5 — Open Word Normally

Open Word again in the normal way from the Start menu.

The licence agreement has stopped appearing No further troubleshooting is required.
The licence agreement still appears Continue to Quick Repair below.

Step 6 — Run Quick Repair

Close all Office applications again.

On Windows 11, right-click the Start button and select Installed apps.

Find your Microsoft Office installation and select:

Modify

Then select:

Quick Repair → Repair

Allow the repair to finish completely, then restart Windows and open Word again.

Licence agreement no longer appears? The repair has resolved the problem. No further action is required.

Step 7 — If Needed, Run Online Repair

If Quick Repair completed but the same licence agreement problem remains, return to the Office repair screen.

This time select:

Online Repair → Repair

Allow Online Repair to finish completely, then restart Windows and test Word again.

Still appearing after Online Repair? Stop troubleshooting at this point. Do not repeatedly repair or reinstall Office. Return to your Ecokeys Support Check so we can review the problem.

If You Need Ecokeys Support
