Windows 10 Home Upgrade Options in 2026: Pro, 22H2 or Windows 11?
If you are using Windows 10 Home in 2026, the word “upgrade” can mean several different things.
You might want to:
- Update an older Windows 10 installation to the final Windows 10 version 22H2.
- Upgrade Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro for additional features.
- Move from Windows 10 to Windows 11 if the PC is compatible.
- Stay on Windows 10 temporarily and enrol an eligible PC in Microsoft's Extended Security Updates programme.
Windows 10 no longer receives new feature versions. Microsoft ended standard support for Windows 10 Home and Pro on 14 October 2025, and version 22H2 is the final Windows 10 release.
If you want Microsoft's current Windows features and ongoing normal support, the upgrade path is now Windows 11 rather than another Windows 10 feature update.
Quick answer: If your PC runs an older Windows 10 release, update it to 22H2 if you must remain on Windows 10. What Does “Upgrade Windows 10 Home” Mean in 2026?
Older Windows advice often used the word “upgrade” to describe downloading the latest Windows 10 feature release.
That is no longer the situation.
There are now three main upgrade paths:
Older Windows 10 → 22H2
Use this when a legacy Windows 10 PC is still running an older release such as 21H2, 20H2 or 2004.
22H2 is the final Windows 10 version.
Windows 10 Home → Pro

- 23H2.
- 24H2.
- 25H2.
- 2026 feature release.
Version 22H2 is the end of the normal Windows 10 feature-release line.

How to upgrade Home to Pro

- Select Next.

- Gaming.
- Email.
- Streaming.
- Studying.
- Normal home working.

Option 3: Upgrade Windows 10 Home to Windows 11
For a compatible PC, this is now the most important upgrade route.
Microsoft recommends moving eligible Windows 10 PCs to Windows 11 because normal Windows 10 support has ended.
If the computer meets the Windows 11 requirements, upgrading to Windows 11 is normally a better long-term choice than remaining on Windows 10 simply to gain or retain familiar features.

How to Check Whether Your PC Can Run Windows 11
Windows 11 has stricter hardware requirements than Windows 10.
Important requirements include:
- A supported 64-bit processor.
- TPM 2.0.
- UEFI firmware.
- Secure Boot capability.
- At least 4 GB RAM.
- At least 64 GB storage.
- Compatible graphics.
The processor requirement is particularly important because simply having TPM 2.0 does not automatically make every Windows 10 PC eligible.

Windows 11 Home
Appropriate for normal personal computing, gaming, Office, browsing and general home use.
Windows 11 Pro

Should You Buy Windows 10 Home in 2026?
Windows 10 Home can still be relevant, but it should now be purchased for a specific compatibility reason.
Examples include:
- An older PC that cannot meet Windows 11 requirements.
- Legacy software that specifically requires Windows 10.
- Specialist hardware with reliable Windows 10-only drivers.
- Restoring an existing Windows 10 computer.
- Maintaining a tested legacy environment.

Which Windows 10 Home Upgrade Should You Choose?
Update to 22H2
Use this route if the PC must remain on Windows 10 but is still running an older release.

Windows Update does not offer Windows 11
The PC may not meet Microsoft's Windows 11 requirements.
Run PC Health Check and review the specific result before changing BIOS or security settings.
The PC says TPM 2.0 is missing
Some PCs contain a compatible TPM that is disabled in UEFI/BIOS.
Check the manufacturer's instructions before changing firmware settings.
Do not assume every PC without an immediately visible TPM 2.0 result is permanently incompatible.
Windows 10 Home to Pro fails
First confirm:
- Windows 10 Home is activated.
- The installed edition actually says Windows 10 Home.
- The computer is connected to the internet.
- The Windows 10 Pro product key was entered correctly.
- You have restarted after any pending Windows updates.
